New Look

As you've seen in the graphic at the top of the blog, there seems to have been a population explosion.

We're building community with lots of room for varied interests and multiple skill levels and this is just one step on the way.

The New Kid

Calling all Soul & Blues-Loving Fatbook Artists

Musician Curtis Salgado, world famous harp player and inspiration for John Belushi's Blues Brother's character has been diagnosed with Liver cancer. He is undergoing treatment while waiting for a Liver transplant.

His treatement alone will cost $100,000, and The Rainy Day Blues Association in Eugene  OR is having a benefit concert/silent auction on Sunday, May 28th at the McDonald Theater.

Artist Teri Velazquez plans to offer a fabulously embellished fatbook for the silent auction, and plans to send Curtis a personal chunky book to show how much he is loved. She needs your art to pull this off.

The official call for art asks for:
2 pages, both must be in Teri's hands no later than May 19th:

One page, 4x4, with some room for binding on the left, on the theme of Blues and/or Soul music for the auction.

The cover will be blue, but your page does not have a color requirement--just the theme. With lots of Blues lovers in Eugene there is no telling who will bid on and win the book so this is a chance to get your wonderful art out into a wider audience.

IMPORTANT: Help Support a Special Need in the Arts Community

It's very infrequently that I post the same message in two blogs, but I thought it was important to get this information out to the largest possible audience. If you've alrealy read it in the Asylum blog feel free to skip it here - or may be let seeing it again encourage you to pass the information on to someone else.

Sara Hopp is a young woman, mom to two cute pups, a whirling dervish of ideas and energy, and an online supplier of the stuff that mixed media artists, rubber stampers and collagists crave.

Here's where the "Support Needed" thing comes in -

Sara's husband, Dante, was recently diagnosed with a brain tumor. His surgery took place on Thursday morning of this past week and he is now in ICU. A long recovery period - plus lots of medical bills - looms ahead.

 
 

Mail Art Wanted - Deer Trail Studio Tour: September 2006

Your submissions are being sought for an exhibit of Mail Art, organized to help raise funds for Cancer Research.

Cancer has touched everyone in some way perhaps a family member, a friend or a co-worker. The theme of is "Just Imagine... ( a world without cancer).

All mail art received will be displayed during the  Deer Trail Studio Tour in September 2006.

Your submitted mail art will be viewed by 2,000 visitors. A silent auction is planned during the two day Studio Tour event and all money raised will be donated to Cancer Research.

Thank you for helping us make the exhibit a success and supporting Cancer Research!

Guest Writers - Your Chance for Visibility Awaits

Got Something to Say? Guest Blogging by Artists, Writers, Crafters & Others

The Museum of Paper Arts Blog would like to extend a welcome to any Artists, Writers, Crafters, Teachers, Workshop Organizers, Product Reviewers, and Everyday People with something to say - or others who wish to contribute to this blog.

Suggestions would be something about:

• an art piece that you created
• an area of art or craft
• a resource
• an artist
• an instructor or class
• art/craft supply
• a group you participate in (including yahoo, Google, etc)
• store
• learning to get your art/craft/etc blog set up
• personal story (how your family helps your career/discourages you, etc)
• a book review or info on your own writing
• a swap, round robin or other group project
• TV program
• CD or Video
• workshop
• arts-vacation / retreat place
• teaching or exhibiting opportunity etc

+ Preference will be given to submissions involving something with which you have personal experience, or something that you have a connection to.

+ Something that comes with photos will get a couple of extra brownie points.

+ Something that includes links to other blogs, especially blogs which have "TrackBack-ability" will get an additional couple of brownie points. 

That said, in the end all submissions will be considered, so don't feel constrained.

Advantages to You are Many -
                      including that each submission will:

• have your name on it
• include your photo and/or images of what you're writing about
• include a short bio or the writer blurb submitted by you
• be submitted to 45 Blog Indexes & Search Engines
• be indexed by search engines as if it were a separate website - so the more you contribute the more visibility you - and/or your group/event - will get
• include the name and link to the blog you own (unless you don’t blog & want to substitute a photo or website link)
• be an excellent way to draw attention to your own work, your new blog, a workshop you're teaching, etc
• include your eBay ID if desired
• help establish you as a professional or expert
