Opportunity for September 11 Related Art

Tribute_3Gail Ellspermann points out an important project taking place within the art community on September 11th. It involves creating a piece of 9/11 relevant Mail Art of any size. The collection already includes over 1,500 pieces of Mail Art and it would be wonderful to include yours.

The one requirement is that it be mailed on 9/11/06

When your art piece is ready it can be scanned or photographed and added to a flickr album, your blog, etc, Then we'd love to see it, and it would be great if you would go the comment area below and add the URL where we can find it.

Bonus: If you add an image to your blog and send a trackback to the URL listed below ( see where it says trackback: http://www.typepad.com/t/trackback/5750418 ) your entry will appear right here below this entry.

Your creation can be mailed to: Remember September
P.O. Box 793 Katonah, NY 10536  USA

Documentation to all (randomly chosen entrants receive a CD with all images, all others receive an 11″x 17″ color poster of selected entries)

On 9-11-06 Bloggers all over the world will also honor the 2,996 victims in a personal tribute that you can read about here.

MailArt for Scholarship

From Carol Eacret-Simmons, a senior in art education at Dickinson State University in North Dakota comes the following:14305mailartenvelope

My art department is putting on a Mail-In art exhibit to raise money for art scholarships. There is NO theme and any size or medium of "postcard" is allowed.

Our gallery director/art professor has been really awesome and has put a lot of work into improving our tiny little art department and I would like to suprise her by inviting as many artists to participate as possible.

There are some that say it is impossible to fill the gallery with mail-in art, I say bring the challenge on. I really want this to be a successful show for her, so the more cards the better.

All art received will be offered for sale,

Mailart: the Northwest Mounted Valise

Mail Art fans may enjoy an online gallery presentation by Gray Area Productions titled

Stuart Horn
Northwest Mounted Valise

(reopened)

This exhibit shows scans of mail art originals created by Stuart Horn reflecting his work in the 1970-80's.

Stuart was the second editor of Ray Johnson's Weekly Breeder.

The materials shown in the Mounted Valise are from
'The Clip Board Collection' an offset printed group of pieces Stuart passed on to Pat Rogers and Gray Area Productions in the 1980's.

Other works from this collection and other selections from Stuart's private collection are coming soon.
And bio and bibliographic pages will expand, along with the collage pages, as it is gathered.

Pat Rogers can be contacted via email at this link
