The Yin and Yang of Blessings and Challenges

Range I'm not normally acquisitional but I have been wanting a couple of things recently. Of those I was seriously considering, the first choice was not a new stove.

What I was thinking was more like a spa weekend, potted bulbs and gardenias, a new french door opening off the dining room, a gift pack for leg waxing and pedicures. .  Well you see what I mean,

But when the spouse says it's time for the stove to go, I go with it. No more putting it off. The original should have been replaced when we bought the house 5 years ago this summer. It had finally become so unreliable it just had to go. So the new one is sweet and I might even take up cooking again if it works as well as it should.

Baby

Considering I'm not going to be sitting among my bulbs outside my new french doors admiring my pedicure it's possible.

The very same night that the range was purchased, the long awaited second granddaughter made it known that she'd soon be with us. "Soon" being a relative word,

This is the longest and most convoluted story of c-sections scheduled (2 weeks ago) and put off, then canceled, then acupuncturist treatments to get the baby into position, and stalled contractions, and a move of mom to my house and then back to hers - well let's just not go into it but suffice it to say that it was a marathon of a pregnancy rather than a sprint,

But on April 21, after over 24 hours in labor our daughter Kerry presented us with this darling pink bundle of mouth with a lot of dark hair.

But mainly mouth.

This should be entertaining in may ways.

Challenging too. But life is challenging so I expect a second grandchild and the accompanying good things and bad things to be no more or less.

I've had a fair amount of joy and sorrow lately and one finds out a lot about people - and yourself - when you have blessings and difficulties.

Sometimes it's mentally easier to deal with a baby. Or a new stove,

You know they're temperamental needy creatures intent on having you operate around them in their own way.

And they run hot and cold. You can be prepared never to know - and that's OK, So you go with that.

Other things are much harder to fit into neat little categories.

Have you ever read Eckhardt Tolle's "The Power of Now?" Or any eastern religion? I find it comforting to try to follow them and live in the moment, without attachment to outcomes. Because the outcome of all life is death, even for the stove, not attaching to that outcome and just loving the moment is helpful. And that's why Kerry brought you another grandchild.

My warmest congratulations to you and your family, Susan. 8-)
