Is viral video still the secret ingredient in social media that trumps many others?
In January 2007 Crayon's Chief Strategy Officer Greg Verdino wondered if executives jumping ship meant that viral video was a sinking ship. His opinion seems to be that it's not.
Am I just seeing more videos as I expand my social media awareness or are they indeed exploding? And when did bloggers start to incorporate multimedia in their blogs? And thankfully I don't mean music that plays when I open the page.
One thing seems certain. As the year has gone on and clips are added to facebook with more frequency, their quality also seems to be leaping ahead as well.
And all this brings me to this: Is it the music or the message that sells the Free Hugs video below? Does being multi-sensory give it an undefinable boost that makes up for anything lacking?
For me it's got it all - connection, humanity, open to interpretation, and though very basic and not slick in any way, so effective.
