Why Do Blogs Matter?
It's about conversations.
"If I had 10 seconds to tell the whole world why blogs matter to businesses, I would just say this:
Millions of people use blogs every day to read and share information and opinions. Why wouldn't a business want to follow and participate in that giant sea of conversations?
Thomas Silkjær at The Undersigned shares that along with several reasons why blogs can be important Aha! Conversations.
I'll take conversations and networking and word of mouth anytime.
The discussion reminds me of the current flap in my backyard. It concerns a blog article I wrote, saying nice things about someone and their yahoo group and their website.
What's the problem? This person just does not accept that blogging about her, including linking to her, is as good as a different kind of link.
You read that right. She wants a link someplace other than in a blog post.
While her insistance on a different kind of link to her is a little
boggling it was coincidental that the next blog post I read after
sending off the third explaination of why I do not do reciprocal
links* was Thomas Silkjær.
And I found Silkjær complements of Easton Ellsworth blogger and fellow blogebritiy. Unlike some of us, it's easy to see why Easton made the list - especially being the resource for this info and more insights about blogging at at Business Blogwire
.
* FYI :
Question: Why don't I "trade" links tit for tat?
Answer: Because I've got a 'thing' about it. I'm a grandmother and a mother of four. Somehow I've picked up grey hair and opinions. This is one of them.
I feel as if that kind of referrals or recomendations can go down a slippery slope of being worth nothing to those I refer to others including anyone I may "trade" with. I'd rather give true recomendations or just generously spread links around in than do referrals that have essentially been bought and paid for.
I'll just keep dropping links to other bloggers and participating in Blogtipping and the Indie Virus in a Pay it Forward kind of mentality. In fact, I'm very happy to do so.

Susan, thanks for the kind words and the mention. Blogs matter insofar as they provide a way for people to connect with each other. I'm impressed with your blog here - you've got some excellent design elements that I ought to suggest to the Know More Media IT team!
